Spirituality

Spirituality is about helping children explore who they are, understand the world around them, and appreciate the people in it. We encourage our pupils to be thoughtful about their own values and beliefs— whether religious or personal—while developing deep respect for the diverse faiths, feelings, and cultures of others. Through creative learning, quiet moments of reflection, and experiences that spark curiosity, we aim to nurture every child's sense of wonder, empathy, and self-awareness as they grow.

The Language of Spirituality

We have chosen to use the terms 'Me, Others, The World and God'  to explore different aspects of spirituality within the context of collective worship, classroom learning and personal reflection. Pupils are encouraged to consider how each of these terms can be applied to the given context.

  • Me: Understanding one’s inner life, unique identity, thoughts, feelings, and self-worth.

  • Others: Developing empathy, compassion, respect, and deep awareness of how we relate to and treat people around us.

  • The World: Experiencing a sense of awe, wonder, and curiosity toward nature, beauty, science, and human creativity.

  • God: Exploring and asking "big questions" about meaning and purpose, and connecting with something greater than oneself.

At Dawpool, pupils were introduced to the concept of spirituality through a special week of activities.  They pondered big questions and responded through art activities.  They also designed logos of our chosen spiritual language which provide a visual stimulus to support our spiritual thinking across the curriculum.

Following training from Chester Diocese, staff encourage pupils to develop their 'Spiritual Capacities' across the school day and beyond - in relation to themselves, others, the world and God.
