Welcome to our Foundation 1 page.

Mrs Heron- Class Teacher
Ms Johnson
Mrs Williams - Thurs pm & Friday

At Dawpool, your child will have their designated class team. However, our Foundation Stage staff work closely as a team, working flexibly between Foundation 1 and Foundation 2. This ensures all staff know all children well and the children gain confidence communicating with a small group of familiar adults.

The Foundation Team are Mrs Poston, Mrs Heron, Ms Johnson and Mrs Vickers If you have any questions, worries or concerns, please do speak to any of the Foundation Staff who are ready and able to help you.

A member of F1 staff will be available on the door every morning and every evening. If you have any worries, concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to come and have a chat. If we can't resolve the issue immediately we can arrange a more detailed meeting, at a mutually convenient time.

We will aim to share your child's learning with you weekly, via Tapestry. If you have any issues accessing your account, then please do let us know.

If you have any queries at any other times, then please contact Mrs Heron via email on schooloffice@dawpool.wirral.sch.uk or phone 0151 648 3412.

Please inform school immediately if you do not have online access.

Many thanks.

Foundation 1 Timetable and Topic Overview

Curriculum

In the Foundation Stage, we follow the EYFS curriculum. This has 7 areas of learning; Communication and Language; Personal, Social, Emotional Development; Physical Development; Literacy; Maths; Understanding the World; and Expressive Arts and Design. To support these areas of learning, adults either lead activities to teach new skills or children ‘choose their own learning’ to practice and consolidate skills and extend their play.

The classroom is full of opportunities and resources to support children’s learning. resources may include – building blocks, mark making materials, books, musical instruments, water play and much more.

Autumn term is very busy with lots of activities to help us get to know your children and their interests. This will then help us plan lots of activities and opportunities.

During the first few weeks -  Our topic is ‘Getting to know you’ where we will be finding out about feelings, friends and families.

Questful R.E. - Our topic is ‘I am Special'

PSHE - Our topic is delivered through ‘Heartsmart’ and our first topic is ‘Meet Boris’ who is a special robot who helps us talk about feelings and emotions.

P.E. – Physical Development

In Foundation 1, we participate in physical activities throughout the entire week. This may consist of time on the pirate ship playground, the large playground, the tyres for climbing, the tyres for rolling, forest school, bikes and scooters and activities in the hall.

The very nature of the EYFS curriculum enables us to go with the interests of the children. The activities we plan are for a guide only.

We may complete planned activities, adapt planned activities or remove activities from the planning and replace with something more suitable. It is all dependent on how and where the children’s interests take us.

Activities are designed to cover several weeks, if needed.

Please download a copy of Foundation 1's weekly timetable and topic overview. Please note, the topic overview has a variety of topic based ideas/activities. Not all of these will be completed and others ideas will be added over the weeks based on the interests of the children.

Please ensure you access Tapestry regularly as this will be updated with photographs information of what children are learning.

Homework

Although there is no set homework in Foundation 1, here are some ideas that that can be helpful to keep consolidating at home –

  • Using the toilet independently - including flushing the chain, washing and drying hands
  • Putting on their own coats
  • Using a knife and fork
  • Recognising their name
