Welcome to Year 6 2026 - 2027

It is the start of a brand new academic year. I cannot wait to welcome you to Y6 and for us to have a fantastic year of learning.

This term, we are going to be heading back in time to WW2

We will be exploring the question.
How did WW2 affect life in Britain?

We will be exploring this question as part of our History topic this term.

Reading and Spelling
Reading
  • You can download below a recommended reading list for Year 6 and Year 7 pupils. These books are widely available from most book sellers.
  • Please encourage your child to read both fiction and non-fiction.
  • Children will be given a reading book in their class homework pack.
  • In Year 6 the focus is on comprehension skills so there will be a weekly comprehension or reading task related to Literacy or Topic work. Each half term we will be reading a class text, a range of poetry and non-fiction material.
Spelling
  • The year 5-6 key words are attached below. In Y6, weekly spellings will be based on the key spelling words as well as a range of Y6 patterns.
  • Each week, children will practice these spellings in class and will be encouraged to learn them at home before sitting a spelling test every Thursday.
