Foundation 2 Staff

Mrs Heron - Class Teacher
Mrs Hood
Mrs Vickers (mornings)
Mrs Poston (Friday)

At Dawpool, your child will have their designated class team. However, our Foundation Stage staff work closely as a team, working flexibly between Foundation 1 and Foundation 2. This ensures all staff know all children well and the children gain confidence communicating with a small group of familiar adults.

The Foundation Team are Mrs Poston, Mrs Heron, Mrs Hood, Ms Johnson, Mrs Vickers and Mrs Ellis. If you have any questions, worries or concerns, please do speak to any of the Foundation Staff who are ready and able to help you.

Welcome to our Foundation 2 page.

A member of F2 staff will be available on the door every morning and every evening. If you have any worries, concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to come and have a chat. If we can't resolve the issue immediately we can arrange a more detailed meeting, at a mutually convenient time.

We will aim to share your child's learning with you weekly, via Tapestry. If you have any issues accessing your account, then please do let us know.

If you have any queries at any other times, then please contact Mrs Heron via email on schooloffice@dawpool.wirral.sch.uk or phone 0151 648 3412.

Please inform school immediately if you do not have online access.

Many thanks.

*PE and Forest Schools will be held every Friday. Children can come into school in school PE kit. Navy shorts or tracksuit bottoms, white PE T-Shirt and a navy blue sweatshirt or hoodie.

Please can you make sure your child also has a coat with them on this day, as we aim to do forest schools in all weathers.

Reading

Children will be allocated a phonics reading book and a reading for pleasure book each week.

You have access to e-books via the Rocket Phonics website. You have been sent details (via Tapestry) about how to log-in and access these books.  These books will link to the phonics sounds being taught in school during that time.

Please let a member of the F2 team know if you have any problems accessing the website.

Every Thursday we will send home a physical reading book matched to your child's current level. Please could we ask for this book to be returned by Tuesday to enable us time to chat to children about what they have read and to change the books over.

You can also download below a recommended reading list for Foundation 2 pupils. These books are widely available from most book sellers.

You may also wish to subscribe to Oxford Owl for additional free reading material:

Go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk and click on ‘Oxford Owl for Home’ to set up an account.

Foundation 2 Timetable and Topic overview

Please download a copy of Foundation 2's weekly timetable and topic overview. Please note, the topic overview has a variety of topic based ideas/activities. Not all of these will be completed and others ideas will be added over the weeks based on the interests of the children.
Please ensure you access Tapestry regularly as this will be updated with photographs information of what children are learning.

EYFS

During our time in Foundation 2, we will undertake activities linked to all areas of the Early Years Curriculum;

Prime Areas; Communication and Language; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development.

Specific Areas; Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.

Sessions will also include RE, HeartSmart, No Outsiders, My Happy Mind and Forest Schools.

Activities will be linked to our class topic. We aim to use children’s films and books as a hook for learning to help us find out more about ourselves and the world around us. Throughout the year we will select films based on the interests of the children and that enable us to cover all requirements of the Early Years Curriculum.

We will talk about where the film is set and find out where this country is on a map. We will then the theme of the film as a way of guiding our planning.

PLEASE NOTE

The very nature of the EYFS curriculum enables us to go with the interests of the children. The activities we plan are for a guide only.

We may complete planned activities, adapt planned activities or remove activities from the planning and replace with something more suitable. It is all dependent on how and where the children’s interests take us.

Activities are designed to cover several weeks, if needed.
