Foundation 2 Class Page

Welcome to the Foundation 2 Class Page
Foundation 2 Staff

Mrs Poston - Class Teacher
Mrs Vickers
Mrs Hood - Friday Afternoon

At Dawpool, your child will have their designated class team. However, our Foundation Stage staff work closely as a team, working flexibly between Foundation 1 and Foundation 2. This ensures all staff know all children well and the children gain confidence communicating with a small group of familiar adults.

The Foundation Team are Mrs Poston, Mrs Heron, Ms Johnson and Mrs Vickers If you have any questions, worries or concerns, please do speak to any of the Foundation Staff who are ready and able to help you.

A member of F2 staff will be available on the door every morning and every evening. If you have any worries, concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to come and have a chat. If we can't resolve the issue immediately we can arrange a more detailed meeting, at a mutually convenient time.

We will aim to share your child's learning with you weekly, via Tapestry. If you have any issues accessing your account, then please do let us know.

If you have any queries at any other times, then please contact Mrs Poston via email on schooloffice@dawpool.wirral.sch.uk or phone 0151 648 3412.

Please inform school immediately if you do not have online access.

Many thanks.

Foundation 2 Timetable and Topic overview

Curriculum  In the Foundation Stage we follow the EYFS Curriculum which has 7 areas of learning; Communication Language and literacy; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; Literacy; Maths; Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.  To support these areas of learning, adults lead activities to help teach new skills or ideas. At other times, children choose their own play and explore the environment around them.

We make sure that all the toys, resources, and areas in the classroom are set up to support children’s learning. Whether they’re building with blocks, playing in the role play area, or reading a book, they are always learning through play and having fun.

During this Half-Term our topic is ‘Getting to Know you’ where we will be finding out about feelings, friends and families. We use books as a hook for our learning and a ways of guiding the activities. Our first book is ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas

RE Our ‘Questful R.E.’ topic is  ‘Special Times’. We will be finding out about special Holy times and how they are celebrated.

PSHE Our PSHE Topic is delivered through HeartSmart and our first topic is ‘Meet Boris’. A special robot who helps us talk about feelings and emotions.

P.E.  On Friday we will be having our PE and Forest School lessons. Children are to come into school in their PE kit; navy joggers/leggings, navy hoodie or sweatshirt and white school PE T Shirt.

This Half-Term we will focus on stopping and starting when we hear the tambourine and listening carefully to instructions. We also learned that we only use the equipment when we are told to.

Our Topic for PE this half term is ‘Ways of moving’. We will be exploring different ways of moving – high, low, fast, slow, forwards, backwards, stopping, starting, and changing direction.

The very nature of the EYFS curriculum enables us to go with the interests of the children. The activities we plan are for a guide only.

We may complete planned activities, adapt planned activities or remove activities from the planning and replace with something more suitable. It is all dependent on how and where the children’s interests take us.

Activities are designed to cover several weeks, if needed.

Please download a copy of Foundation 2's weekly timetable and topic overview. Please note, the topic overview has a variety of topic based ideas/activities. Not all of these will be completed and others ideas will be added over the weeks based on the interests of the children.
Please ensure you access Tapestry regularly as this will be updated with photographs information of what children are learning.

Homework

Children will be allocated a phonics reading book and a reading for pleasure book each week.

You have access to e-books via the Rocket Phonics website. You will be sent details (via Tapestry) about how to log-in and access these books.  These books will link to the phonics sounds being taught in school during that time.

Please let a member of the F2 team know if you have any problems accessing the website.

Every Friday we will send home a library book. Please could we ask for this book to be returned by Wednesday to enable us time to chat to children about what they have read and to change the books over.

You can also download below a recommended reading list for Foundation 2 pupils. These books are widely available from most book sellers.

You may also wish to subscribe to Oxford Owl for additional free reading material:
