Foundation 2 Class Page
At Dawpool, your child will have their designated class team. However, our Foundation Stage staff work closely as a team, working flexibly between Foundation 1 and Foundation 2. This ensures all staff know all children well and the children gain confidence communicating with a small group of familiar adults.
The Foundation Team are Mrs Poston, Mrs Heron, Ms Johnson and Mrs Vickers If you have any questions, worries or concerns, please do speak to any of the Foundation Staff who are ready and able to help you.
Curriculum In the Foundation Stage we follow the EYFS Curriculum which has 7 areas of learning; Communication Language and literacy; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Physical Development; Literacy; Maths; Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design. To support these areas of learning, adults lead activities to help teach new skills or ideas. At other times, children choose their own play and explore the environment around them.
We make sure that all the toys, resources, and areas in the classroom are set up to support children’s learning. Whether they’re building with blocks, playing in the role play area, or reading a book, they are always learning through play and having fun.
During this Half-Term our topic is linked to the question 'Did dinosaurs hatch out of eggs?" We will be answering this question and also finding out what else might hatch out of eggs.
Literacy Our Literacy focus is linked to different stories. We will break the book down into sections and undertake reading and writing activities linked to each section. Our current book is 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'.
RE Our ‘Questful R.E.’ topic is ‘Friendships’. We will be finding out how to be a good friend and why this is important. We will then explore different friendships discussed in the Bible and finding out about some of Jesus' special friends
PSHE Our PSHE Topic is delivered through HeartSmart and our topic is ‘Too Much Selfie Isn't Healthy’. This helps us think about the perspective of others.
P.E. On Friday we will be having our PE and Forest School lessons. Children are to come into school in their PE kit; navy joggers/leggings, navy hoodie or sweatshirt and white school PE T Shirt.
This Half-Term we will focus on Gymnastics. We will be moving our bodies in different shapes; pencil, T-shape, L-shape, tuck and star shape. We will also be learning to use the apparatus to travel, up, over and along.
The very nature of the EYFS curriculum enables us to go with the interests of the children. The activities we plan are for a guide only.
We may complete planned activities, adapt planned activities or remove activities from the planning and replace with something more suitable. It is all dependent on how and where the children’s interests take us.
Activities are designed to cover several weeks, if needed.
Homework
Children will be allocated a phonics reading book and a reading for pleasure book each week.
You have access to e-books via the Rocket Phonics website. You will be sent details (via Tapestry) about how to log-in and access these books. These books will link to the phonics sounds being taught in school during that time.
Please let a member of the F2 team know if you have any problems accessing the website.
Every Friday we will send home a library book. Please could we ask for this book to be returned by Wednesday to enable us time to chat to children about what they have read and to change the books over.
You can also download below a recommended reading list for Foundation 2 pupils. These books are widely available from most book sellers.
