At Dawpool CE, we believe that Forest School provides a unique opportunity for children to learn beyond the classroom, discover their strengths and develop a deeper connection with the natural world. Guided by our Christian vision and the Parable of the Talents, our Forest School experiences inspire children to recognise their God-given gifts, embrace challenges and develop the confidence to succeed in unfamiliar situations. Through regular opportunities to explore, create and learn outdoors, children develop independence, resilience and a sense of belonging, discovering that success can take many different forms. We are committed to ensuring every child, including those with SEND, has the opportunity to flourish in this enriching environment, where curiosity is encouraged, achievements are celebrated and every individual is valued. By providing space for exploration, discovery and adventure, we nurture a love of learning that supports children's wellbeing, personal growth and understanding of their place in God's creation.
Our Forest School provision is underpinned by four golden threads: problem-solving, using tools, teamwork and connecting with nature. Children are encouraged to take appropriate risks, think creatively and find solutions to practical challenges, developing perseverance and confidence along the way. Through learning to use tools safely and responsibly, they build practical skills, independence and respect for their environment. Collaborative activities help children develop communication, trust and compassion as they work together, support one another and celebrate shared achievements. By exploring seasonal changes, observing wildlife and caring for their surroundings, children develop a sense of wonder and a responsibility to protect the natural world. Rooted in our Christian values, we want our children to be inspired by the outdoors, committed to caring for creation and confident in using their talents to overcome challenges, strengthen relationships and make a positive difference to their community.
Golden Threads:
Forest School activities are designed to complement the National Curriculum. Children engage in a variety of fun, and muddy, tasks outside, which range from going on mini-beast hunts and collecting natural objects to creative activities, digging, using tools and shelter building. These activities are successful at developing children’s physical and co-ordination skills as well as their social skills as they learn to work together and express themselves individually.
The activities enable them to experience numeracy, literacy, science and many other subjects within a practical and engaging environment. The sessions take place in all weathers and are flexible in order to make the most of the learning potential that nature offers at any one time. We provide both timetabled lessons and after school activities in Forest School.
