Reading

Your child will bring home one or two reading books on a Thursday for the weekend. Please ensure the book is returned to school on a Monday so that we can have time to read your comments and issue new books. Reading logs will be sent home for you to make a note of the book your child has read at home, comments about how they read and any problems or progress you feel your child has made,.

You can download below a recommended reading list for Year 2 pupils. These books are widely available from most book sellers.

You may also wish to subscribe to Oxford Owl for additional free reading material:

Go to https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk and click on ‘Oxford Owl for Home’ to set up an account.

These common exception words are being used for Year 2 spellings.
Please note that P.E. will be on a Thursday afternoon this half term due to timetabling changes and to enable us to work with specialist P.E. teachers.
This term our Power of reading text is 'Traction man is here.' This is a fun and engaging text and we will be basing our literacy learning around this story.

This Week's Timetable

Please download below a copy of this week's timetable which details the subjects being taught and the objectives for every lesson.

Homework

Please continue to access the Rocket phonics e books via the Boost platform. The books are aligned to the phonics we are learning in class each week. If your child has difficulty reading the books independently, it is fine to read the book with them, discussing the story and phonics contained within each page. Ask your child to point out phonics they recognise within words and use them to decode unfamiliar words. Breaking up longer words into smaller sections is also helpful. I have set up the books so a new one will become available each week until July. I hope your child enjoys reading these new books. Let me know if you have any problems accessing the platform. Thank you for your support.
Every day, first thing in the morning, we will be completing Fluent in five questions with the children. I have uploaded the week's slides should you wish to go over the questions at home.
Homework- 10.6.24
Reading: Reading packs will be sent home on Thursday. Please read with your child and send the reading pack to school on Monday. If you send packs in late we will not always be able to change books. Reading for pleasure books will also be sent home every week if children return the previous book.
Maths- I have set maths task on Purplemash. This week we will be learning about time. Mrs Barrick will continue the unit on money. Please practice recognising coins, counting amounts of money and giving change.
I will send home words for the children to practice for our class assembly. Please practice reading them with your child, encouraging them to speak loudly and clearly.
 See Purplemash for tasks.
