Reading
 
Your child will bring home one or two reading books on a Thursday for the weekend. Please ensure the book is returned to school on a Monday so that we can have time to read your comments and issue new books. Reading logs will be sent home for you to make a note of the book your child has read at home, comments about how they read and any problems or progress you feel your child has made,. 
 
You can download below a recommended reading list for Year 2 pupils. These books are widely available from most book sellers.

These common exception words are being used for Year 2 spellings.
P.E. is on Monday afternoon. Children should wear P.E. kit as per Dawpool's school uniform policy. 
This is our Power of reading text for this term. We will be using it to inspire us to write, produce Art pieces and poetry and lots of other exciting things! 
Watch this video about Magic Grandad and the Great fire of London. It will help you to learn about Samuel Pepys.

Homework
 
Please continue to access the Rocket phonics e books via the Boost platform. The books are aligned to the phonics we are learning in class each week. If your child has difficulty reading the books independently, it is fine to read the book with them, discussing the story and phonics contained within each page. Ask your child to point out phonics they recognise within words and use them to decode unfamiliar words. Breaking up longer words into smaller sections is also helpful. I have set up the books so a new one will become available each week until July. I hope your child enjoys reading these new books. Let me know if you have any problems accessing the platform. Homework- 4.3.24
Reading: Reading packs will be sent home on Thursday. Please read with your child and send the reading pack to school on Monday. If you send packs in late we will not always be able to change books. Reading for pleasure books will also be sent home every week if children return the previous book. 
Maths- I have set maths task on Purplemash. We will be looking at division this week. 
English- There is a phonics task to complete. I will send a spelling sheet home with the dge spelling to practice.
English- Grammar task about conjunctions.
Science-Our topic this term is Humans and other animals. I will send home a sheet about how to care for a pet.
History- I set a task to build a house for the Great fire of London. 
 
  
 
We have been sending home a reading for pleasure book in your child's reading pack. Your child will choose a reading for pleasure book every week to read at home. These books are not levelled and are chosen by your child to enjoy either independently or to be red together with you. Please return these books in your child's reading pack when they have finished reading them. We will not issue another book until the previous book has been returned. Thank your for your support. 
Every day, first thing in the morning, we will be completing Fluent in five questions with the children. I have uploaded the week's slides should you wish to go over the questions at home.
