Computing at Dawpool

Computing at Dawpool

At Dawpool CE, we believe that Computing empowers children to explore new possibilities, communicate with others and develop the skills to thrive in an increasingly digital world. Guided by our Christian vision and the Parable of the Talents, our bespoke Computing curriculum inspires children to recognise their God-given gifts and use technology creatively, confidently and responsibly. We want our children to be curious about the world around them, understand how digital technology connects people and communities, and appreciate the opportunities it offers for learning and collaboration. At the heart of our curriculum is a commitment to online safety, ensuring every child, including those with SEND, develops the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices, recognise potential risks and protect themselves and others in digital spaces.

Our curriculum is underpinned by four golden threads: Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital Literacy and Online Safety. Children develop an understanding of how technology works, learn to create and use digital content, and build the skills needed to find, evaluate and communicate information effectively. Through practical experiences and problem-solving opportunities, they develop resilience, logical thinking and confidence in applying their knowledge across the curriculum and beyond. We place particular importance on helping children navigate the online world with care, kindness and discernment, understanding how to protect their personal information, recognise inappropriate content and treat others respectfully. We want our children to be rooted in strong values, inspired by the possibilities of technology and committed to using their digital skills to learn, connect and make a positive difference, becoming responsible digital citizens who use their talents wisely in service of others.

From Foundation Stage through to Key Stage Two, we are using the Purple Mash Scheme of work. The sequential lessons and progressive steps provide our children with an understanding of how to stay safe online, use programming and coding as well as communicate with others effectively.
