Religious Education at Dawpool
At Dawpool CE, as a Church of England school, our Religious Education curriculum is rooted in our Christian vision and the Parable of the Talents, inspiring every child to recognise their God-given worth and the unique gifts they bring to the world. We believe RE provides a vital opportunity for children to explore the Christian faith, encounter other religions and worldviews, and reflect on the big questions that shape our lives. As children grow, they meet experiences, beliefs and ideas that may be unfamiliar, surprising or puzzling, alongside people whose lives and perspectives differ from their own. Our curriculum encourages pupils to approach these encounters with curiosity, confidence and compassion, developing the understanding needed to navigate an increasingly diverse world. We are committed to ensuring every child, including those with SEND, feels valued and supported to flourish through meaningful reflection, thoughtful discussion and the exploration of faith. Through high-quality RE, we aim to nurture children to be rooted, inspired by the beliefs and experiences of others, and committed to promoting equity, diversity, justice and respect within their local and global communities.
Our curriculum is underpinned by four golden threads: self-awareness, respect for all, open-mindedness, and appreciation and wonder. These attitudes are central to helping children develop positive approaches to their learning and to the beliefs and values of others. Through exploring Christianity, including the teachings of Jesus and the significance of the Bible, alongside other faiths and worldviews, pupils reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences. They learn to listen respectfully, consider different perspectives, question assumptions and recognise the dignity and worth of every individual. Through stories, sacred texts, celebrations and encounters with different traditions, children develop a sense of awe and wonder, deepening their appreciation of the richness and diversity of human experience. We encourage pupils to consider how faith and belief influence people's lives and how shared values can help build a fairer, more compassionate society. Rooted in our Christian foundation, we want our children to be inspired to explore life's big questions, committed to standing up for justice and treating others with dignity, and confident in using their understanding to build meaningful relationships and contribute positively to a diverse world, experiencing fullness of life through faith, reflection and service to others.
At Dawpool we follow the Questful RE Scheme of Work which aligns with the National Society's Statement of Entitlement for RE.
During their time at primary school, alongside Christianity, pupils will also progressively study Hindu Dharma, Islam, Judaism and will encounter Buddhism, Sikhi and Non-religious World Views including Humanism.
