At Dawpool CE, we believe that every child has a story to tell, ideas worth sharing and the potential to be inspired by the power of language. Guided by our Christian vision and the Parable of the Talents, our English curriculum encourages children to discover their voices, explore new possibilities and use their God-given gifts to communicate, create and connect with the world around them. Through an ambitious and inclusive curriculum, we strive to ensure every child, including those with SEND, can access rich literary experiences, overcome barriers and experience success. Our bespoke writing curriculum lies at the heart of this ambition, offering carefully crafted opportunities for every child to develop as a writer, find inspiration and produce work of which they can be proud.

Our curriculum is woven around five golden threads: vocabulary, oracy, diversity, reading for pleasure and writing for purpose. We immerse children in language, nurturing their ability to express themselves thoughtfully, listen to others and engage confidently in meaningful conversations. Through a diverse range of high-quality texts, we broaden horizons, celebrate different voices and experiences, and cultivate a genuine love of reading that extends beyond the classroom. We place purpose at the heart of writing, enabling children to write creatively, communicate effectively and understand the impact their words can have on others. By making meaningful connections across learning and life, we inspire our children to become curious readers, articulate speakers and accomplished writers who use language to enrich their own lives, champion others and make a positive difference in the wider world.

Implementation

We follow a bespoke curriculum designed specifically for Dawpool, built around our golden threads. Each half-term unit is based on a carefully chosen book, providing opportunities for reading and for writing across both fiction and non-fiction.
